Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Canadian Retirement Engineer (canadianretirementengineer.ca) is a personal website run by Bill, an individual in Canada. This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. I try to collect as little as possible.

What I collect

  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address (and your name, if you choose to give it) when you subscribe.
  • Emails you send me: your email address and whatever you include in your message.
  • Comments: if you comment on a post, the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details (used for spam detection). Your email address is never shown publicly.
  • Technical data: like almost every website, the server automatically records basic information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. This is used for security and to keep the site running.
  • Calculators: numbers you type into the calculators stay in your browser. They are not sent to me or stored.

How I use it

  • To send the newsletter you signed up for
  • To reply to your messages
  • To display and moderate comments
  • To keep the site secure and working properly

I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Email newsletter and your consent

I only send newsletters to people who have asked for them. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. You can also email me and I’ll remove you. This follows Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Cookies

The site uses only the cookies needed for it to work. For example, WordPress may set a cookie to remember your name and email if you leave a comment and tick that box. The site doesn’t currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes, I’ll update this policy first.

Services that help run the site

Some personal information is handled by trusted service providers, only as needed to run the site:

  • Hostinger hosts the website and its server logs.
  • Kit (kit.com), a U.S.-based email service, stores subscriber email addresses and sends the newsletter. When you subscribe, you may receive an email asking you to confirm.
  • Microsoft Outlook handles email sent to the address above.
  • Gravatar (by Automattic) may display your profile picture next to a comment if you have a Gravatar account linked to your email.

Some of these providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.

Affiliate links

Some pages may in future include affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you sign up for or buy something through them, at no extra cost to you. Pages with affiliate links will say so. When you click one, the other company’s own privacy policy applies.

How long I keep it

I keep subscriber information until you unsubscribe, and emails and comments for as long as they remain useful for running the site. You can ask me to delete your information at any time.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email canadianretirementengineer@outlook.com and I’ll respond within 30 days. If you have concerns that I can’t resolve, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

This site is meant for adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If I change this policy, I will update the date at the top of this page.
