About Canadian Retirement Engineer
Hi, I’m Bill.
I’m a Canadian engineer, husband, father, investor, and someone working toward retirement. I created Canadian Retirement Engineer to make sense of the many decisions involved in preparing for the next stage of life.
Like many Canadians approaching retirement, I’ve reached the point where retirement is no longer a distant idea. It’s a real goal that requires thoughtful planning, informed decisions, and a willingness to question assumptions.
What I’m learning
On this site, I document what I’m learning about:
- Retirement planning
- CPP and OAS
- RRSPs and TFSAs
- Retirement income strategies
- Investing
- Financial independence
- Lessons learned along the way
My approach
My professional background has taught me to approach challenges by gathering information, questioning assumptions, and making evidence-based decisions. I believe retirement planning benefits from the same mindset.
Important disclaimer
I am not a financial planner, financial advisor, or investment professional. The information on this site reflects my personal research, experiences, opinions, and observations as I work toward my own retirement. It is not financial advice, an investment recommendation, or a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. Your circumstances may be different, so always do your own research and seek professional advice when appropriate.
Canadian Retirement Engineer is simply a record of my real-world journey toward retirement over the next decade, along with my exploration of the questions many Canadians are asking themselves.
I also hope to capture some of the financial lessons I’ve learned over the years and pass them on to my children and others who may be earlier in their own financial journey.
Whether you’re planning for retirement, helping a parent navigate retirement, or simply trying to make better financial decisions, I hope you find something useful here.
Thanks for visiting.
Bill
